PAR: Post-Arthroplasty Rehab of the Knee and Shoulder

$249.00

Focuses on current evidence based interventions for promoting high level functional return to a patient’s requested level of daily activities. This presentation will be based on the speaker’s 39 years of practical experience in treating total joint replacement of both the knee and shoulder. Today’s surgical procedures including less invasive options such as unicompartmental (knee) and hemiarthroplasty (shoulder) will be presented. Reverse prosthesis for total shoulder replacement will update a protective exercise protocol based on current literature.

Course Rationale

Upon completing this course, participants will have a deeper understanding of current best evidence into concepts of total knee and shoulder arthroplasty rehabilitation. This deeper understanding will allow the participant to more completely and fully assess and manage patients following Arthroplasty.  This course will explore why muscular components of the upper and lower extremities are so important to the kinetic chain including evaluating the evidence based positional recruitment of open and closed kinetic chain exercises, this will allow participants to develop improved plans of care and exercise progressions for their patients post total joint arthroplasty.  Upon completing this course, participants will be able to apply functional training activities specific to the presentation of their patient following total joint arthroplasty, thus improving overall treatment outcomes and returning patient to normal functional mobility.  This course will provide attendees with a relevant review of updated total knee arthroplasty and shoulder arthroplasty guidelines and how these guidelines will relate to optimal assessment and intervention for their patients who are status post knee arthroplasty.

Course Objectives

  • Define current concepts in total knee and shoulder arthroplasty based on evidence based applications
  • Discuss updated manual mobility interventions of both the knee and shoulder
  • Design functional rehab exercises based on the latest research
  • Develop pre-and post-operative guidelines to create goal based outcome of activities of daily living
