MTX: Skilled Integration of Manual Therapy and Exercise

$495.00

Improve exercise prescription along the continuum of the rehab process. Principles of exercise are reviewed and analyzed regarding implementation, namely through “phase progression.” The ability to make initial intervention choices and HEP prescription more impactful will be strengthened by matching common manual interventions and impairments to therapeutic exercise to maximize intersession gains. Advanced exercise progressions will be demonstrated and clinical reasoning will be explained so that the concept of “phase progression” is applied. Techniques to help bridge gaps in treatment progression will be discussed, specifically, PNF will be shown as an intervention to progress from passive manual intervention to independent active movement.

Course Rationale

This course will provide attendees with a relevant review of the application of therapeutic exercise including loading and implementation during the phases of rehabilitation.  Upon completing this course, participants will have a deeper understanding of how to match manual therapy that has been effective at addressing the patient’s chief complaint with therapeutic exercise and activities that are meant to maximize patient function and independence. This deeper understanding will allow the participant to more completely and fully assess and manage patients who benefit from manual therapy.  This course will provide participants with the working knowledge to be able to assess effectiveness of interventions through the use of the test – treat- re-test approach, this will allow participants to develop improved plans of care and exercise progressions for their patients with musculoskeletal complaints.

Course Objective

  • Participants will demonstrate understanding of the principles of exercise loading
  • Participants will be able to apply the principles of exercise loading to patients along the phases of rehab (Phase I-Phase III)
  • Participants will demonstrate the ability to create an exercise routine to complement manual therapy interventions
  • Participants will be able to successfully analyze patient response to load in order to modify exercise prescription and dosing to achieve optimal patient outcomes
  • Participants will demonstrate good technique in education methods for exercise utilizing various types of feedback mechanisms
